âNatural Beautyâ - Neil Young
On the roller coaster ride
That my emotions have to take me on
I heard a newborn baby cry
Through the night
I heard a perfect echo die
Into an anonymous wall
Of digital sound
Somewhere deep inside
Of my soul
A natural beauty should be preserved
Like a monument to nature
Donât judge yourself too harsh
My love
Or someday you might find
Your soul endangered
A natural beauty should be preserved
Like a monument to nature
Amazon
You had so much
And now so much is gone
What are you gonna do
With your life?
What a lucky man
To see the earth
Before it touched his hand
What an angry fool
To condemn
One more night to go
One more sleep
Upon your burning banks
A greedy man never knows
What heâs done
A natural beauty should be preserved
Like a monument to nature
Donât sell yourself too short
My love
Or someday you might find
Your soul endangered
A natural beauty should be preserved
Like a monument to nature
Went to the rodeo today
I saw the cowgirls
Lined up on the fence
A brand new Chevrolet
A brand new pair of seamless pants
We watched the moment of defeat
Played back over on the video screen
Somewhere deep inside
Of my soul
A natural beauty should be preserved
Like a monument to nature
Kate Bushâs Aerial album is one of my favourites ever. Only just noticed she was talking about a washing machine, always wondered what she meant by Wushy Mushy
Canât get over it lol.
Slooshy sloshy slooshy sloshy
Get that dirty shirty clean
Slooshy sloshy slooshy sloshy
Make those cuffs and collars gleam
Everything clean and shiny
Washing machine
Washing machine
Washing machine
The Garden
In this one of many possible worlds
All for the best or some bizarre test?
It is what it is and whatever
Time is still the infinite jest
The arrow flies when you dream
The hours tick away, the cells tick away
The Watchmaker keeps to his schemes
The hours tick away, they tick away
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect
In the rise and the set of the sun
'Til the stars go spinning
Spinning 'round the night
Oh, it is what it is and forever
Each moment a memory in flight
The arrow flies while you breathe
The hours tick away, the cells tick away
The Watchmaker has time upâŚ
Watched Sea of Tranquility on Youtube discussing favourite Rush albums through the decades. When it came to Clockwork Angels, this song got a particular mention. Struck me that at the time of writing these lyrics Neal Peart was already unwell with inoperable Cancer. Listening to the track in a different light now. Will always miss him.
âDid Ya?â - The Kinks
Went for a walk down the Old Kingâs Road,
To see if anybody was there.
But there was nobody home at 3 Bywater Street,
And they had sold Cadogan Square.
And I remember myself in my tie dye sweater,
And my hipster corduroy flares.
As I knocked on doors,
And walked down one-way streets that led nowhere.
Ah, did ya ever think it wouldnât last forever?
Did ya ever think that it would get this bad?
Did ya ever think that everything would get so crazy?
Now the Chelsea Drug Store needs a fix,
Itâs in a state of ill repair.
And my Cuban heels are hurting my feet,
Just to add to my despair.
La-di-dahs drove Mini cars in the summertime.
(In the summertime)
Now theyâre towed away for parking on a double yellow line,
And they canât pay the fine.
(Did you ever think)
Did you ever think weâd all believe the hype?
(Did you ever think)
Did you ever think the classes all would revert back to type?
(Did you ever think)
Did you ever think the system ever really got it right?
Oh, baby.
They filled us full of false illusions and promiscuity,
And they led us down that class-less road to mediocrity.
As we walked down that alley way of hope,
We thought weâd found the motherload,
But we were led like lambs to that promise land,
With all the debts that we would owe.
Once trendies posed for tourist pictures in the summertime.
(In the summertime)
Not content with taking Polaroids, they purchased all the property that they could find,
And Iâve just sold mine. (Did you ever!)
Did ya ever think that this green and plesant land,
(Did ya ever think)
Would end up in the bottom of some garbage can,
(Did ya ever think)
A dustbin full of promises and half-hearted plans.
Oh, baby.
Did ya, did ya, did ya ever think?
Did you ever think?
(In the summertime)
Now miseries and groaners moan and reminisce about the good old times and whine, whine, whine.
(Did ya ever think)
Did ya ever think when things were really fab,
(Did ya ever think)
That weâd be looking through a dustbin for a dog-end to drag,
(Did ya ever think)
And sleep on park benches wrapped in plastic bags.
Oh, baby.
Did ya ever think that it would get this crazy?
(Did ya ever think)
Did ya ever think that it would get this way?
(Did ya ever think)
Did ya ever think that we would pay the price for being lazy?
That is a great song.
Made me laugh this oneâŚ.
Jivinâ Miss Daisy - Ian McNabb
They threw a little party down in old Keystone,
in a maximum security nursing home,
I was just a DJ tryna pay the rent,
wonderinâ where the money and the good times went,
breakinâ out the bangers that the old folks dig,
spied a little cutie in a bingo wig,
left the record playinâ stepped out to the floor, me and that mama cut a rug for sureâŚ
I was jivinâ Miss Daisy, (jivinâ Miss Daisy)
jivinâ Miss Daisy (jivinâ Miss Daisy),
jivinâ Miss Daisy (jivinâ Miss Daisy)
this old lady is drivinâ me crazyâŚ
tapped her for a couple of her happy pills,
loaded as seventies Stephen Stills,
meet me at the gate man weâre gonna hit the town,
wear somethinâ tight gonna shake 'em on down,
she looked me in the eye said âYouâre younger than my son,
age is just a number when all said and done.â
Told her not to worry and to take the wheel,
she said âAinât you got any Howard Keel?â
I was jivinâ Miss Daisy, (jivinâ Miss Daisy)
jivinâ Miss Daisy (jivinâ Miss Daisy),
jivinâ Miss Daisy (jivinâ Miss Daisy)
this old lady is drivinâ me crazyâŚ
for seven days straight we burned round the coast,
doinâ what Daisy digs the most,
jumpinâ and a jivinâ, puttinâ on the style,
turninâ off the clock for a little while,
when we got back they threw me in the can,
now my partner is a tattooed man,
when I get out man you know Iâm gonna be,
givenâ back care in the communityâŚ
Iâll be jivinâ Miss Daisy, (jivinâ Miss Daisy)
jivinâ Miss Daisy (jivinâ Miss Daisy),
jivinâ Miss Daisy (jivinâ Miss Daisy),
this old lady is drivinâ me crazyâŚ
Jivinâ, ja, ja, jivinâ, Miss Daisy around.
âThe Graveâ - Don McLean
The grave that they dug him had flowers
Gathered from the hillsides in bright summer colours,
And the brown earth bleached white at the edge of his gravestone.
Heâs gone.
When the wars of our nation did beckon,
A man barely twenty did answer the calling.
Proud of the trust that he placed in our nation,
Heâs gone,
But Eternity knows him, and it knows what weâve done.
And the rain fell like pearls on the leaves of the flowers
Leaving brown, muddy clay where the earth had been dry.
And deep in the trench he waited for hours,
As he held to his rifle and prayed not to die.
But the silence of night was shattered by fire
As guns and grenades blasted sharp through the air.
And one after another his comrades were slaughtered.
In morgue of Marines, alone standing there.
He crouched ever lower, ever lower with fear.
âThey canât let me die! They canât let me die here!
Iâll cover myself with the mud and the earth.
Iâll cover myself! I know Iâm not brave!
The earth! the earth! the earth is my grave.â
The grave that they dug him had flowers
Gathered from the hillsides in bright summer colours,
And the brown earth bleached white at the edge of his gravestone.
Heâs gone.

âResurrection Dayâ
I was just living on
On the day they dropped the bomb
I was numb with a hard road in front of me
In the eye of the storm
So many long days I wonât mourn
But I wept with joy when the black clouds
disappeared
From a long, lonely night
Iâm back into the light
And it feels just like itâs resurrection day
Battle lines been drawn
Youâre in the dark before the dawn
And youâre wondering why luckâs such a
random thing
Every plan from before
In dust upon the floor
And itâs tough as hell when youâre lower
than a submarine
But you live through the fight
And you touch the other side
And it feels just like resurrection day
It feels just like itâs resurrection day
Somehow you break through tin
barricades
While the fires are burning
Sometimes you fall on your knees and pray
From a cold, lonely night
Iâm back into the light
It feels just like resurrection day
Yes it feels just like resurrection day
I been waiting so long for resurrection day
Thought these lyrics were quite relevant.
âFrom Now Onâ - Ron Sexsmith
Have we been blind?
Have we been lied to?
Best keep our eyes open
From now on
Thereâs no peace of mind
When the warâs inside you
It feels like somethingâs broken
Somethingâs gone
But itâs a new day from now on
And this time I wonât wonder
From dusk 'til dawn
If a new dayâs coming
Itâs a new day from now on
We live in times
Where choice is frowned upon
Afraid to even raise
Our voice in song
Or speak our minds
For fear of falling on
The wrong side of opinion
Where has freedom gone?
But itâs a new day from now on
And this time I wonât wonder
From dusk 'til dawn
If a new dayâs coming
Itâs a new day from now on
Theyâre in the business
Of panic and control
Weâre in the business of the heart
And of the soul
Have we been blind?
Have we been lied to?
Best keep our eyes open
From now on
But itâs a new day from now on
And which case I wonât wonder
When Mondayâs gone
If Tuesdayâs coming
Itâs a new day from now on
New day from now on
And this time I wonât wonder
From dusk 'til dawn
If a new dayâs coming
Itâs new day from now on
Canât understand why this was so controversial when it came out
âDear Godâ - XTC
Dear God, hope you get the letter and
I pray you can make it better down here
I donât mean a big reduction in the price of beer
But all the people that you made in your image
See them starving on their feet
Cause they donât get enough to eat from God
I canât believe in you
Dear God, sorry to disturb you but
I feel that I should be heard loud and clear
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
And all the people that you made in your image
See them fighting in the street
Cause they canât make opinions meet about God
They canât believe in you
Did you make disease and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!
Dear God, donât know if you noticed but
Your name is on a lot of quotes in this book
And us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look
And all the people that you made in your image
Still believing that junk is true
Well I know it ainât, so do you
Dear God
I canât believe inâŚ
I donât believe inâŚ
I wonât believe in heaven and hell
No saints, no sinners, no devil as well
The pearly gates, no thorny crown
Youâre always letting us humans down
The wars you bring, the babes you drown
Those lost at sea and never found
And itâs the same the whole world round
The hurt I see helps to compound
The Father, Son, and holy ghost
Is just somebodyâs unholy hoax
And if youâre up there youâll perceive
That my heartâs here upon my sleeve
If thereâs one thing I donât believe in
Itâs you
Dear God
