Has anyone listened to the new Pendragon album
After the excellent Pure and Passion I was really looking forward to Men Who CLimb Mountains but after two listens I was really disappointed. Is it worth persevering with ?
Yes definitely Andy, it gets better the more you play it. I like it alot, but Pure and Passion were very strong albums to follow .

This was a christmas present from my son. I love it.
I saw some of the documentaries about the making of the album in the US. The band went to 8 US cities and explored the musical history of each city and then recorded a song supposedly influenced by the city. To be honest its hard to hear the influences when you listen to the album. For example the Nashville song is definitely not country!
More interesting to me as I had recently visited Austin and Chicago which are two of the cities.
Austin claims to be the Live Music Capital of the World. For its size it does have a huge number of gigs and it has 3 major festivals including SWSX and Austin City Limits two of the biggest festivals in the world.
And I would argue that London takes some beating in terms of the number and quality of gigs available.
Anyway I digress, Its a great album.
Agree 100% that the songs bear no resemblance to the locations that they were recorded. The documentaries were great viewing though.
AGNES OBEL - aventine
ARCHIVE - axiome
FRANK SINATRA - strangers in the night
SUPERTRAMP - supertramp

Peter Gabriel Back to Front, Live in Birmingham, November 2014. As I was there and it was my gig of the year I ordered it, mixed from the sound desk, very high quality CD.
