Always remember seeing a thing on the news when CDs first came out. Some guy was spreading butter and jam on one with a knife, as though it wouldn’t scratch. Little did we know.

Just that you might scratch or mark the playing surface of the CD by placing it playing side down on a table , shelf etc.
