What are you listening to (3)? (Part 2)

Tool - Fear Inoculum

Very impressive. Really enjoyed the whole album from beginning to end. Vocally and musically, it sounds superb.

Mate of mine saw them last week. Said they were excellent live.

They have a real classic metal sound. Both of their albums are excellent. Unfortunately for me they’re another British artist to add to the list that I love to listen to but will never get to see live (same as Massive Wagons, Rosalie Cunningham, Damian Wilson etc).

Listened to this multiple times now over the last 5 days. Usually that wouldn’t be long enough to make a final judgement as to where it stands in their catalogue, but it’s definitely top 3 and must be a contender for prog album of the year. It’s a massive leap up over their last album. - I actually think Alberto Bravin is a bit of a genius for producing this and managing to piece all these disparate pieces of music together into a coherent narrative concept.

I’ve listened to it four or five times now, straight through each time. The whole album just flows beautifully. Even though I’m not the mega-fan you are , I actually think it’s their most consistent record. There are all these little passages that remind me of other songs, but they come together perfectly…I guess that’s the whole point of a concept album! I already know it will be high on my list of favorite albums of 2026.

They’re now considering playing the whole of it on the autumn tour. I think they were originally going to just do a couple of tracks and back catalogue stuff.

That will be an awesome experience. There are currently no plans for them to tour the US this year (except a couple of days on the ‘Cruise to the Edge’) so I have to hope for a date in 2027.

Is this the same recording?

The reason I ask is because I am blocked from listening to the link you posted.

At first I didn’t think so as Early Stages doesn’t have any cover songs encore, but just looked at Set list.fm and appears to be the same date

Just found my Early Stages. Appears that the full gig with 5 song encore isn’t on the cd’s.

Thanks. I’ve never noticed they left incommunicado off the Early Stages CD. Seems a strange decision given its popularity from that era.

Apparently a Princes Trust charity gig. Four cover songs with members of Iron Maiden for the encore.
