I’m having a massive cd purge today. Big clear out. Trying to fit 8 huge cd folders and a unit of cds into 4 170 disc folders. It’s a task!
Since I always use a pocket of the folder for the booklet/cover of each album, there’s less space than you’d initially think.
Just feel it needs to be done, when I reckon up just how much I don’t listen to. Some of the albums I haven’t listened to for years and I think to myself what’s the point?
By cutting back into smaller folders, I can transfer everything to my living room, where I actually listen to music. At the moment, everything is in the spare room. I’d post some pictures if I could!
Now I know that KGATLW play many different music genres, and I have no problem with that at all. But when they call an album Alien Metal, I do not expect a full on dance/rave album. Give me some metal.
Wasn’t it Johnny Rotten who said “Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?”
On the positive side, I did only pay 50p for the download, and it is a good dance/rave album, if that’s your thing.
First listen to this. The first album of new material from their reunion period, back in 1999. They lost none of their inventive quirkiness. Great songwriting.
Having this big cd clear out has really got me thinking about all those artists and bands in my collection that have me drawn to the same few albums of theirs. I mean, why have complete discographies of The Eagles when I only listen to Desperado? Same goes for Neil Young. I like Neil, but I only ever listen to After the Goldrush, Harvest and Harvest Moon. Very occasionally Zuma. Joni Mitchell, Blue, Hejira and Court and Spark.
And some artists you only really need the ‘Greatest Hits’ of.
Ah, the Completist. I am not alone. Just need to get around to being ruthless with the CD`s. Only problem is when I start pulling things out of cupboards / piles I play them again and think, " I`m keeping that." I am looking at you Super Furry Animals, Wilco and Josh Rouse especially. There are loads more.
I have been ruthless, but I’ve still got a large amount that I probably won’t play very often. At least there’s now some order to it and it looks tidy. Glad I’ve done it.
There are always going to be those few bands and artists I’m too attached to that I find it impossible to whittle down, so I’ll always have that completist streak!
