Big Big Train prog heaven ![]()
Just caught up with the latest Derek On Friday. Fairly interesting, as much as hearing about opening a cafe can be. Maybe if he decides to continue with these live streams, once a month or whatever, it would be nice if he talked a bit more about his discography and a few past reminiscences, and maybe played a couple of tracks. Some connection to the reason we all still have an interest. Obviously, it’s great to hear about what he’s up to also.
It does sound like a nice way of life up there, and I honestly don’t blame him not missing the music business.
Great to know he’s ‘living the dream’ in his retirement.
I’m not retired (I wish) but my recent move to mid Wales for a quieter life resonates with me to why he decidedr to relocate.
However his total lack of acknowledgement to his music and his fans since the farewell gigs does feel like a bit of a slap in the face. I maybe reading the situation wrong but to me he’s just forgotten his past in the blink of an eye, and forgotten the fans who supported him for years. ![]()
I only got to watch it this evening and I enjoyed it. He always tells a good story. I like that he speaks so open, but I agree that some of his comments often feel disparaging towards the people (us) that supported his career. His comments about how much everything cost are somewhat crass too.
I was encouraged by his talk of a live release from the final tour …”maybe, someday” … especially as he previously said it will never happen.
As for the causeway running through his back yard, sounds like his solicitor didn’t do their job properly. But yeah, it was nice to hear what he’s been up to and what the immediate future holds for him.
Just write the biography already! ![]()
I was honestly a bit shocked to hear he is open to the idea of selling his solo rights. I never thought I’d ever hear that.
