Listened to this while doing a 5 km run today - my first since the beginning of May. Goes without saying, the pace of the music was faster then the pace of my run ![]()
I don’t know how this band has passed me by till now, as I love quirky eclectic songwriting. Haven’t been through all their stuff yet, but I’m guessing they were impossible to pigeonhole. A marketing nightmare. They only made five 70’s albums, and then a couple when they reformed in the 2000’s. I’m definitely hearing where XTC got inspiration from. I believe Andy Partridge is a fan.
So enjoyable to me. One minute they’re doing a Proggy Genesis-style folk epic, the next minute they sound like Gilbert O’Sullivan, The Beatles, The Kinks doing Vaudeville. Jazz Fusion meets The Worzels. Occasionally Floyd and Tull. They absolutely don’t take themselves seriously. Pythonesque at times.
